(love) delivered

The thought of a bike courier arriving to a recipient with an urgent message brings about a steady flow of images. However, what if that bike messenger were in a pink jumpsuit? What if their bike wasn’t a super fast courier bike, but a retro cruiser bike with pink streamers? Now picture that same bike messenger, in a pink jumpsuit hopping off their retro cruiser, urgently pulling out a glass bottle from their pink satchel. As you cautiously open the door, you are interrupted with the jubilant phrase, “Someone in Chicago loves you!”

pink: a (love) courier service is a unique travelling art installation and love note delivery service. The film follows the third leg of their three city tour, which began in 2006 in Austin, Texas. Love Delivered is currently at film festivals.

Good Coffee

As a teenager, Keleme found herself unable to return home after conflict broke out near the Ethiopia and Kenya border. She was forced to settle in a Kenyan refugee camp. Nineteen years later, she finds herself in the U.S. never having returned back to her home. As a refugee in the United States, she must wait until she obtains her citizenship before reuniting with her family.

Good Coffee is short documentary about an Ethiopian woman’s life in constant transition. It explores the life of a woman who even struggles with the word, “refugee.” Told in her own words, the story that unfolds on screen is one of pain and healing, of sorrow and hope. The film asks the viewer to grab a cup of coffee, sit down, and listen. Good Coffee is in post-production and is slated for release in late Fall 2011, but you can catch a peek at the latest rough cut.
