As a teenager, Keleme found herself unable to return home after conflict broke out near the Ethiopia and Kenya border. She was forced to settle in a Kenyan refugee camp. Nineteen years later, she finds herself in the U.S. never having returned back to her home. As a refugee in the United States, she must wait until she obtains her citizenship before reuniting with her family.
Good Coffee is short documentary about an Ethiopian woman’s life in constant transition. It explores the life of a woman who even struggles with the word, “refugee.” Told in her own words, the story that unfolds on screen is one of pain and healing, of sorrow and hope. The film asks the viewer to grab a cup of coffee, sit down, and listen. Good Coffee is in post-production and is slated for release in late Fall 2011, but you can catch a peek at the latest rough cut. |
